In India there’s currently an estimated 30-million child laborers forced to work up to 16-hours a day for little or no pay. Many of these children are robbed of their health, their growth, their education, their innocence and all too often their lives. John Clemens reports.
In India these children are often viewed as the lost among the living. They have been made virtually invisible by the deepest poverty. They grow and are molded not to become contributing citizens, but to be commodities that are sold to the highest bidder. Young male children work in the fields or factories for up to 16-hours a day, while others become child soldiers or infant beggars. The young girls end up in brothels. James George is the Executive Director of the South Asia Native Missionary Alliance.
:15 “little or no pay”
Kirby Faulk of the South Asia Native Missionary Alliance says in India you also see these little human beings who have often been abandoned at birth or born to beggars working in far different situations that you would ever see in the U-S.
:10 “in the fields”
Due to the differences in the currencies as well as the different economies, these children can be given an education that can bring hope to these children for as little as 18-dollars a year. Again Kirby Faulk.
:17 “take to his home too”
James George understands what 18-dollars a year can mean to these children.
:05 “freedom and slavery to a child”
Kirby Faulk tells us in India some of these children who could be getting an education are often taken out of school because their parents are in debt.
:15 “rest of your life”
James George says all too often, due to the lack of a basic education these children will die before they ever get to pay off the debt.
:16 “never had a childhood”
With your help the South Asia Native Missionary Alliance can also give these families income-producing livestock.
:33 “what you can do”
In the time it has taken you to listen to this report another child has been taken away.
